Description |
1 black and white photograph of an Italian soccer team in Los Angeles. The photo was likely taken during the summer Olypmics in Los Angeles (1932). Filippo Fordellone is standing, first on the right. Fordellone was the host of an Italian language radio show broadcast from Los Angeles (Italian Radio Melodies) and a World War I veteran. He was among the Italian Americans interned in the United States during World War II following the issuance of Executive Order 9066. One of the players in the photo is a soccer player of local fame named Mario Narduli. James Campagna is probably the leftmost figure in the standing row (with the dark shirt). James was a frequent visitor of the Italian prisoner camps in Long Beach during World War II. He and his father-in-law John Bruno used to coach some of the teams that consisted of prisoners of war and local Italian soccer players. |
