Description |
1 fragment of a brick wall from Little Joe's Restaurant. Established in 1897 as the Italian American Grocery Company on Hewitt Street in downtown Los Angeles, the business moved to North Broadway in 1927. When Italy joined the Axis powers during World War II, the restaurant changed its name to "Little Joe’s" after its owner, Joe Vivalda, to escape wartime stigmas. On advertising materials, the figure of the man holding a key was followed by the tag line "Here is the key to Little Joe’s cellar!" This section of bricks was salvaged from the building's cellar in 2014 upon the building's demolition. The bricks date to the building's construction in the late 1800s. The former site of Little Joe's is now Blossom Plaza. |
